Online Course Design & Development Support

Please Note:  The comprehensive paid support model outlined below is available for all faculty members represented by the AAUP including Adjunct Faculty and In Residence. Members of UPCEA or Management Exempt staff are not currently eligible for compensation. Contact eCampus with questions.

Requesting Support for Graduate Online Course Design and Development

eCampus supports schools, colleges, departments, and programs in the development of high-quality online courses that are part of a fully online graduate degree or certificate program. 

Faculty interested in working with eCampus to develop graduate courses should first consult with their department head or program director to receive approval and information related to the existing or pending degree or certificate programs.  
 
Once departmental approval is obtained, faculty are encouraged to email eCampus to request a meeting to discuss next steps in developing an online course. To ensure high-quality courses and comprehensive program support, please contact eCampus at least 8 months prior to the semester in which the new course will be offered online.

Graduate Course Support Request Form

Faculty who have confirmed approval with their department head and graduate program director should submit the eCampus Online Graduate Program Course Support Request Form according to the timeline below.

Requesting Support for Undergraduate Online Course Design and Development (Summer and Winter Sessions)

eCampus supports faculty in the development of high-quality online courses that expand undergraduate learning opportunities. We accept support requests for Online Asynchronous (OA) and Online Blended (OB) courses to be offered in Summer and Winter Sessions through the request form found below. Faculty interested in consultation support for developing other course modalities (e.g., online synchronous) should contact eCampus directly.

Priority Areas for Summer 2026

This year, eCampus and the Office of Summer and Winter Programs—working with the CCC+ Committee—are prioritizing proposals for a specific subset of Common Curriculum (CC) undergraduate courses that meet the following criteria:

Courses must meet criteria 1–3 below to be considered. 
Courses that also meet criterion 4 will receive additional priority.

  • Common Curriculum (CC) Courses not yet developed in collaboration with eCampus for online delivery.
  • CC Courses that the department commits to offering annually in revenue-generating Summer/Winter sessions until cumulative enrollment reaches at least 175.
  • CC Courses with consistently strong fall/spring enrollment patterns that predict positive summer enrollments.
  • CC Courses that will integrate NACE Career Competencies in collaboration with the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills.

Pending available course development funds, courses meeting the most criteria below will also be considered for Secondary Priority:

  • Non-CC Gen Ed courses with strong enrollment that were previously developed with eCampus and require major revision to align with new Common CurriculumCourses Course must have a total enrollment of at least 175 across revenue-generating Summer/Winter sessions since first offering.
  • Non-CC courses with enrollment patterns suggesting positive summer demand.
  • Non-CC courses that serve a strategic priority for departments, schools/colleges, or University initiatives.
  • Non-CC courses that will integrate NACE Career Competencies in collaboration with the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills.

How to Request Support

Faculty who have consulted with their department head and/or program director and wish to offer a course online in Summer 2027 should read through the steps below and complete the eCampus Summer Winter Online Course Support Request Form by November 1, 2026.

eCampus Online Course Support Timeline For Summer Course Delivery

  • Review information on Designing and Developing Effective Online Course
  • Review eCampus Knowledge Base for background information on Online Course Design, Development, and Teaching
  • Consult with Director of UConn Online to discuss process and answer any questions
  • Consult with department head or program director to confirm departmental support. When faculty complete the support request form, the department head/program director is automatically emailed for approval. Please confer with them prior to submitting the request.

  • Faculty contacted regarding course support requests.

  • Attend kick off meeting with eCampus staff
  • Begin course design with eCampus Instructional Design Staff
  • Participate in CETL faculty development opportunities, lunchtime seminars, and online training
  • Design, Plan, and Build Course

  • Course Design and Development Complete
  • Internal Quality Matters Review and Faculty Quality Matters Self-Review
  • For funded course projects, payment made to faculty at a rate of $2750 per credit upon successful completion of course design and development, submission by faculty of a completed Quality Matters Self-Review, and eCampus confirmation that all Quality Matters 3 point standards are met.

  • Revise for delivery in future semesters/sessions
