The University of Connecticut is required to verify the identity of students who participate in online courses and to establish that students who register in an online course are the same students who participate in, complete the course activities and assessments, and receive academic credit. Verification and authentication of student identity will include:  

• Secure access to the learning management system (HuskyCT) using your unique UConn NetID and password. 
• Additional authentication methods require identity verification paired with a graded assessment that uses webcam video, which include online proctoring, online identity verification through third party companies, video conferences, student-created video assignments, and other methods chosen by the instructor. Common identity verification methods are detailed below.

Common Identify Verification Methods

Husky One Card Photo on Roster

Instructors can access students’ official Husky One Card photos (a.k.a. “roster photos”) through Student Admin for identity verification.

Photo ID Check with Instructor

If students have not uploaded a Husky One Card photo or instructors have difficulty viewing or comparing the roster photos in Student Admin, instructors may request that students display a photo ID in a private online video conference.

Online Proctoring (includes Photo ID Check)

Some online courses require proctoring during assessments (exams, tests, and quizzes), which includes identity verification with a photo ID as part of the start-up process. Requirements and expectations for online proctoring will be listed in course syllabi. Commonly used proctoring services include Respondus LockDown Browser + Monitor and ProctorU.
